In 1978, while working as a sound artist, I listened to the audio analysis done by three acoustical experts testifying at the House Committee on Assassinations. The experts testified there was acoustical evidence of a fourth shot during the assassination of John F. Kennedy based on the echo “fingerprints” of an audio recording in Dealey Plaza on that day.
Their testimony and that of the motorcycle policeman thought to have made the recording of the assassination formed the basis of an audio/visual composition of mine entitled “The Accident Investigator”.
The work created a long fascination with echos. Echos, used as a metaphor, represent the period of time when the act of speaking ends and the listener begins the comprehension and interpretation of meaning.
This Installations was first shown at the International Computer Music Festival in Denton, Texas.
