The title “Cross Examinations” refers to the adversarial role in a court of law to determine the Truth. In this legal term, to cross examination is to interrogate or formally question. This is a role that I take as an artist. Taking the other meanings of “cross”, is “to pass in an opposite or different direction”, or “to be annoyed”.
Our politics are now confabulated, defined as the belief something is true even when not all the facts support it. Ideally democratic political discourse should create an atmosphere of discussion (from the Latin discutere, “to investigate”). Unfortunately the current political discourse tends to debate one another (from the Latin de battuere, “to beat down”).
